The term “hosting” does not describe just one service, but a set of services which provide various functions to a domain. Having a site and emails, as an example, are two individual services even though in the general case they come together, so a lot of people consider them as one single service. In reality, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the e-mails for the domain name. For instance, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will then be forwarded to the correct server. The reasoning behind working with separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account from our company and you wish to direct either your site or your e-mails to a different company, it'll take you literally just 2 clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up won't take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the Linux semi-dedicated hosting which we provide, you're going to have total control over the records of all domain names and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and editing any record requires as little as a couple of mouse clicks. If you decide to switch your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can edit the required record and point your domain address to the other service provider for one of the services, while you still continue using the other one through us. You may also keep the main domain name here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. When you're changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for each one.
